Gaming for Good!

This July, our Warehouse & Services Assistant, Callum, is raising funds for Fresh Start by Gaming for Good!  Callum will be taking part in a 24 hour game-a-thon on 1st July. Callum will be playing his favourite game, "Sea of Thieves", over the course of the two days and broadcasting the event live on streaming platform Twitch.

"Gaming for Good" is a new way of charity fundraising that leverages the passion and dedication of gamers to support charitable causes and make a difference in the world.

"Gaming for Good" uses video games and the gaming community as a platform to raise awareness and funds for various charitable causes. This can take many forms, including charity streams, where popular gamers broadcast live and encourage viewers to donate to a chosen cause, in-game fundraising, where special items can be bought within the game with proceeds going to their chosen charity or through gaming marathons or tournaments.

The impact of "Gaming for Good" has been substantial because it combines entertainment with philanthropy, creating a win-win situation. Moreover, the interactive and engaging nature of gaming makes it an effective way to reach younger audiences who might not be as engaged with traditional forms of charity.

Gaming for Good demonstrates that when communities come together, incredible things can happen. By harnessing the power of play, we can make a real difference in the world. Let's continue to support and celebrate these efforts, and remember that every game played for good is a step towards a brighter future.

Volunteering Team of the Year Winners!

As Volunteers Week came to a close last week, we were delighted to learn that the Meet & Eat community meal team had won the Volunteering Team of the Year award at the Inspiring Volunteer Awards!

The team work so hard and delivered almost 5,000 free meals to the local community last year and thoroughly deserved this recognition.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time, energy, and skills to support our mission. Volunteers Week  is a celebration of your unwavering commitment and the profound difference you make in the lives of those we serve.

Your contributions are the lifeblood of our organization. Whether you’re lending a hand making starter packs, providing essential services, offering support, or sharing your expertise, your efforts are invaluable.

Edinburgh Marathon Success!

This year, we had several runners taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to raise vital funds for Fresh Start.

We had Sasha running 16k for her 16th birthday (and also taking part in the 10k)!

We had the team from Vermilion- The Smile Experts taking part in the Hairy Haggis relay and will be tackling the 7 Hills of Edinburgh later this year. The team have already raised over £2.5k for Fresh Start this year - to add to this total you can sponsor them here!

Gabriel ran the full marathon in the poring rain all in aid of Fresh Start, alongside Phoebe, Daniel and Sharon, who all took part over the weekend.

A huge thank you to all involved and a massive well done on this achievement.

Donations Needed!

We urgently need donations of bedding, in particular, single and double duvet covers and sheets.

As always, if you have any spare electrical items that you no longer need, we can also accept these for our essential starter packs.

If the rain is keeping you in this weekend and you're having a little Spring clean, please consider donating any unused items to Fresh Start. A full list of items we can accept for our starter packs can be found here or alternatively, if you would like to support us, but don't have any spare household items to give, you can shop our Amazon wish list and have essential items delivered straight to our warehouse.
