Christian Aid 2024

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK

12 – 18 MAY 2024

House to House Deliveries/Collections

For all volunteer collectors and deliverers, your red bags are available to be picked up from the Kirk Session House this morning and on 5 and 12 May.

At present we have 30 districts which are uncovered and would be very grateful for any help delivering to these districts. If you are able to help, please pick up one of the unallocated bags from the Session House, write your name on the label on the front and let us know which bag you have. The envelopes only need to be delivered.

It is important that you return your red bag after CA Week even if you are only delivering envelopes.

CHRISTIAN AID FAIR – SUNDAY, 12 MAY

The Scouts Bedding Plants

Professionally grown, high quality bedding plants, fresh from the nursery & at great prices will be on sale at the Fair. For those who have ordered plants from the Scouts in advance, these will be delivered to your door on Sunday, 12 May.

Home baking

Always a winner and we are always in need of donations so please bake your favourites & we’d all be happy to share! Donations of home baking can be brought to the Kirk Hall on the morning of the Fair or handed in to the Kirk Office during the week of the Fair.

Refreshments

A cuppa and shortbread are excellent at building up strength for another trip into the Stall area!

Plants & Cuttings

Could you provide 2 or 3 seedlings/rooted cuttings from your garden in small pots to be sold to raise money for Christian Aid? Please include a label with the plant name and its preference for sun or shade and we’d be glad to take delivery of your pots in the Kirk Office in advance of the Fair.

Tomato Plants

A variety of tomato plants will be available on the Plants & Cuttings stall at the Christian Aid Fair. If you’d like to order a tomato plant or two in advance of the Fair, please contact Kathleen Malone at kamalone23@hotmail.com

Christian Aid Stall

The Christian Aid stall will have information on the kind of work Christian Aid undertakes in different parts of the world as well as details of some of the gifts you can buy so do come and visit. Copies of the Christian Aid recipe book produced for the Fair in previous years will also be on sale.

Raffle

Please help us raise as much money as we can for Christian Aid by supporting the raffle and perhaps you’ll be a winner.
Prayer Wall
As you will be aware if you have been a visitor at the Christian Aid Fair before, we try to use a topic which connects us to all those who are either trying to raise money for Christian Aid or who are in need of help from Christian Aid. The “sound bite” for Christian Aid is “Give, Act, Pray” and this year we thought we would pick up on “Pray” with a Prayer Wall. A Prayer Wall is a designated place for someone to request prayers or display notes of thanks. These requests can range from something for which you or someone you know needs prayer – perhaps safe travel on a forthcoming trip or strength when going through challenging times. Or indeed you might want to ask for a prayer on this year’s Christian Aid theme - the cost of living crisis faced by those around the world. The idea is that you donate £1 for a “prayer brick”, write your prayer on the “brick” and stick it on the Prayer wall.  Then we are asking people to look at the prayers on the wall and to take a brick (or two!) home and use them in your personal prayers.
OTHER EVENTS PLANNED FOR CHRISTIAN AID WEEK

CHRISTIAN AID BOOK SALE

Sadly this year’s Christian Aid book sale at St Andrew’s & St George’s West Church will not be taking place. However there will be a book sale at Holy Corner, in the main hall of Morningside United Church, on Saturday, 11 May from 10 am to 5 pm, on Sunday, 12 May from 1 pm to 5 pm and on Monday, 13 May from 10 am - 12 noon.

70K IN MAY

This year’s Christian Aid challenge is “70K in May!” It’s simple: travel 70 km, in whatever way you can, through the month of May and by taking part you can be the starting point for change.  So please look out your trainers and walk, cycle, run, treadmill, skip, dog-walk, anything you can to complete the 70k in May.  Further details are available HERE
